In the past few days, some very exclusive details about the release date of the upcoming and very anticipated game from Niantic Labs, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, were shared. Luckily for you, we are here to share them with you!
First and foremost, we would not have been able to obtain this information without the precious help of the incredible Youtuber: Poke Fodder. He is already covering everything about the game on his channel, so make sure to subscribe to him for regular updates and content about the game!
Keep in mind that some of the details shared in this article are purely based on a very brief article from The Investor and some other additional details were obtained by Poke Fodder. The legitimacy of this information is, in our opinion, absolutely reliable
About SK Telecom
According to a news report by The Investor as well as SK Telecom’s Press Release, SK Telecom (South Korean wireless telecommunications operator) will be offering a wide range of VR and AR game and media content to its customers to take full advantage of the 5G mobile network which is set to launch later this week.
As 5G is reported to be able to manage larger data volumes with very little latency and SK Telecom will be the first to launch the network, the company went all in and partnered with various companies, such as Niantic Labs (creators of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite) to offer incredible content to its customers.
More details about the release of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite
In short, SK Telecom would have reported partnered with Niantic Labs in order to offer its 5G customers access to the anticipated Wizards Unite in the first half of 2019 (which means before the end of June 2019).
Thanks to Poke Fodder, we were able to obtain even more details. First, the news report by The Investor was apparently compiled after a discussion between the author of the article (Ram Garikipati) and a Spokesperson from SK Telecom (which helps with its reliability). The understanding is that people would have access to the full game from the start, which means that there would be no beta access for Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. This does not come as a surprise as Niantic is known for keeping things as secret as possible before release.
Furthermore, access to the game in Korea will reportedly be exclusive to 5G customers (most likely as a marketing tactic) of SK Telecom. Therefore, it is possible that this “Early Access” to Wizards Unite in Korea would be exclusive to SK Telecom 5G customers and that only later on would the rest of South Korea have access to the game. If we understand the response from The Investor’s author correctly, the game would be available at the same time worldwide, but in Korea would be exclusive temporarily for 5G SK Telecom customers.
Therefore, one could assume that the game will have features that cannot be experienced without the 5G network, which suggests that this game could be even more exciting than expected.
As stated in the introduction of this article, the legitimacy of the information shared today could be questioned, but we believe it might actually be legitimate (especially considering that some of the details can be found in the Press Release from SK Telecom). Earlier this year, SK Telecom and Niantic Labs signed a deal, but the details of this agreement remained secret (until now). We know very little about The Investor, but they have proven to be reliable in the past.
If the news report turns out to be true, then users should expect more than an early access to Wizards Unite. VR and AR content for League of Legends (one of the most popular esports in Korea (and the world)) and even content from Magic Leap (one of the biggest competitors of Microsoft’s HoloLens) are also reported to be expected. Over five exclusive VR and AR games / contents are also to be expected as part of this exclusive offer to 5G customers.
Let us know your thoughts on all this below! While an exclusive early access would be hard to digest for some people, it is at the very least extremely hopeful to know that the game is to be expected in the first half of 2019!
