This is not a drill! Several people have been reporting getting Beta access to Wizards Unite on Android (first reports for iOS came in about 1-2 hours after the release for Android).
Famous YouTuber Poke Fodder reported the news to us in a matter of minutes. A Patreon of his was lucky enough to get Beta access to the game. So far, reports indicate that Beta access is only available in New Zealand.
Why New Zealand? It is a very dense area with active Ingress and Pokémon Go players (as one can notice from the screenshots from Ingress below), and such dense areas are extremely useful to game developers of AR games.
According to the source, the requirements for Beta access aren’t clear.
“I had pre registered on the playstore for the game. I didnt get a notification to say early access was available but a friend mentioned to me that he got a notification. I did a search for the game in the playstore found it and I had the option to install.”
At this time, it is reported that Niantic is taking down any videos of gameplay, so we have simply inserted images.
Shortly after, Niantic announced/confirmed the news on their website and it seems that iOS users from New Zealand are in luck too! Niantic will be rolling out Beta access to other regions (speculation) as they have often done in the past, but there is no indication of when this will happen.
Please note this is a beta version of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. Features, available languages, design, and overall appearance are not final. The product might be buggy and unstable at times. We’re looking forward to your feedback so that we can improve the game experience. From Niantic’s announcement
We’ll make sure to provide you feedback from those who are currently testing the game as soon as possible!
How exciting is this?!
