According to a recent tweet from Takashi Mochizuki, Tech reporter for The Wall Street Journal, DeNA is reportedly working with The Pokémon Company to release a new Pokémon game for mobile in March of 2020. The news was reportedly announced after an investor meeting of the DeNA company earlier today.
DeNA is famously known in the realm of mobile gaming for its large and important portfolio which includes, but is not limited to:
- Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp
- Super Mario Run
- Mario Kart Tour (upcoming in Spring/Summer of 2019)
As you can see, this is not DeNA’s first rodeo with Nintendo, therefore the report Takashi is most likely accurate. While there are currently no details available for the upcoming Pokémon game, other than its release date, one can expect that it potentially could tie in with the upcoming Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. Both games are expected for the Nintendo Switch in late 2019.
There is already a large variety of Pokémon games for mobile (Pokémon Duel, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Quest, Pokémon: Magikarp Jump, etc.), so everyone has their eyes turn to the upcoming E3 (June 2019) in the hopes that Nintendo reveals more details on this upcoming game.
Nintendo has recently announced that they will be holding a Nintendo Direct at E3 (Nintendo’s keynote), and with this recent report of a new upcoming mobile game, one might suspect that Nintendo will tease the fans during this conference. Although, it is more likely that the upcoming and anticipated Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will be the star of the show at this event.
Stay tuned, we’ll be sure to keep you updated as things progress!
