From the developers of moderate hit The Walking Dead: Our World, Next Games has just announced a new installment in the AR/Geolocation-based mobile gaming industry with Stranger Things, slated for a 2020 release.
In collaboration with Netflix, Next Games is currently developing the game to rely on geolocation, but also to take on the RPG format, similarly to the upcoming Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.
There are very details shared about the upcoming game, aside from the fact that it will be re-imagined in order to adapt the Stranger Things 80s universe into a cartoon adaptation, somewhat childish looking you might say. Players will be able to explore the Upside Down hidden around them and fight back the evil that emerges with friends.
Teemu Huuhtanen, CEO of Next Games, had this to say about the upcoming game.
We are huge fans of Stranger Things and thrilled to work together with Netflix to bring our shared vision of Stranger Things into life in a mobile game format. Our core focus will be to deliver on Stranger Things’ rich and intense themes like friendship and supernatural adventure, and translate these into snack-sized entertainment on your mobile device. Combined with Netflix’s second-to none ability to reach audiences across the globe, we will deploy all of our accumulated creative and technological expertise to create a game for the fans of the series all around the world.
We are very curious to see how the RPG format will be adapted to the Stranger Thing universe, but we can clearly see the appeal of exploring the Upside Down.
What do you think? Is this a game you would be down to try out? We sure are excited to see the AR/Geolocation mobile gaming realm expand like this!
