Wizards Unite – Speculations on the first Community Day

Hello Wizards and Witches! Lady Brittany here with some fun theory speculations about the Community Day news announced yesterday, which will be held on July 20. So far, that’s pretty much all we know, but we will update you with more information when it’s released!

For those unfamiliar with the concept of Community Day, here is just a bit of background. Pokemon GO has a community day every month and here is a breakdown of what it involves;

  1. Three hours of one boosted Pokemon spawning thanks to 3 hours Lure Modules
  2. In game bonuses that change each month such as the below
    1. Bonus catch XP
    2. Bonus hatch XP
    3. Discounted hatch distance
    4. Stardust catch increased
    5. and more!
  3. The third and most important bonus is having a featured Pokemon’s Shiny variant introduced with boosted shiny rates, and an exclusive move for its final evolution!

In short, Community Day is an opportunity for local communities to come together, share highlights, play together, interact, etc. Some communities go as far as using Community Days as an opportunity to raise money or goods for various charity groups.

Now, how can this translate to Harry Potter: Wizards Unite? Well, let’s go over a few differences between the two games that will make a huge impact on how Community Day might be in HP:WU.

General goals/features of the games

Pokemon GO is all about catching Pokemon, making friends, trading/battling with those friends, and battling in Raids with groups of people.

HP:WU is about returning Foundables to stop/solve the calamity, completing Wizarding Challenges in Fortresses by teaming up with others, and there are currently no friend features outside of having a friends list.

Pokedex vs Registry

With Pokemon GO, there are different types of Pokemon; Normal, Fighting, Flying, Poison, Ground, Rock, Bug, Ghost, Steel, Fire, Grass, Water, Electric, Psychic, Ice, Dragon, Dark and Fairy.

HP:WU’s equivalent would be the different Foundable Families found in your Registry; Care of Magical Creatures, Dark Arts, Hogwarts School, Legends of Hogwarts, Ministry of Magic, Magizoology, Magical Games and Sports, Mysterious Artefacts, Wonders of the Wizarding World, Oddities, and lastly Challenges.

However, where Pokemon GO has around 484 amount of Pokemon in currently and the potential to have 807 more, HP:WU only has about 200 possible Foundables (not counting the brilliant event ones we just had).

With all of this in mind, how might HP:WU have their Community Day? Well, for starters I think one difference will be that it won’t be focused on one specific Foundable like Pokemon GO‘s focuses on one specific Pokemon. It would make more sense for it to be one family or maybe even one specific page in a registry. The first Pokemon GO community day featured Pikachu, which is arguably this most iconic Pokemon. That being said, what family is the most well known Foundable in the Harry Potter universe? We’ll probably the Hogwarts School or Legends of Hogwarts.

Therefore, I strongly believe that the first community day will probably feature one of those families to test the waters. And those bonuses could be:

  • Increased XP for returning Foundables from the featured Family;
  • Decreased unlocking distance for Portkeys;
  • Dark Detectors lasting three hours;
  • A special Brilliant Foundable from the featured Family will be made available during the event.

With the recently found Brilliant Foundables, more on that here (SPOILER ALERT), it would make sense that the featured Family might be Hogwarts School.

Parting Words

Now, this is plain speculation, but that’s how I believe Community Day could logically take place. What do you guys think Community Day will be like on July 20? Leave a comment below and get involved in the conversation here or on Discord!
